The 8th Annual SUMMER SUMMIT will be in Eau Claire on Thursday, July 21, 2022.

The Summer Summit is a nonpartisan event open to all, and a place for robust, honest, open conversation about how we can hold ourselves, our public schools, and our elected officials accountable for making sure every student has what they need to thrive. We welcome you to join us for this once-a-year opportunity to connect with committed public school champions around the state!

Elected officials and candidates at all levels and of all political affiliations are welcomed and encouraged to attend, but please note that absolutely no electioneering is allowed at the event in any way. All elected officials representing the Eau Claire area have been specifically invited to attend the event. State Reps. Jodi Emerson and Jesse James and Sen. Jeff Smith, all ECASD alumni, are confirmed.

The Eau Claire Area School District will host the 8th Annual Wisconsin Public Education Network Summer Summit on July 21, 2022 at Eau Claire North High School. The Summit is an all-day conference running from approx. 9:00-5:15, with doors opening between 8 and 9am.

We are excited for over 30 world-class interactive sessions with experts and experienced advocates from around Wisconsin and the U.S. on our theme: PUBLIC SCHOOLS UNITE US. This theme gives us an opportunity to discuss how we can come together to meet the needs of all learners and unite to develop strategies for dealing with the challenges and obstacles we face. $25 Summit tickets include attendance at the day-long event and a free lunch, catered by local Eau Claire caterers C & T’s Fish & Chicken and Everything Vegan.

Featured presenters include: Dr. Michael Apple, John Bascom Professor Emeritus of Curriculum & Instruction and Educational Policy Studies, UW-Madison; Matt Rothschild, Executive Director, Wisconsin Democracy Campaign; Martha Siravo, Madtown Mommas and Disability Advocates; Amber West, Leaders Igniting Transformation (LIT); and more…plus remarks from State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly and Governor Tony Evers.

We also invite you to join us at the post-Summit dinner reception at The Lismore hotel in downtown Eau Claire! We hope that you’ll consider joining us at The Lismore by purchasing a $25 dinner ticket, or better yet, joining the Network as a Blue Ribbon Partner to join us at the Summit, dinner, get a Blue Ribbon badge and be entered into our grand prize drawing. The dinner reception will feature a tribute to the work of three outgoing directors: Terri Phillips of the Southeast Wisconsin Schools Alliance (SWSA); Kim Kaukl of the Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance (WiRSA); and John Forester of the School Administrators Alliance (SAA).

CHILDCARE: HUGE THANKS to our Eau Claire area friends at the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association (HMAA) for offering childcare during the Summer Summit! We hope this will give more public education champions from around the state the flexibility to join us on July 21.

We’re prepared to follow CDC, Eau Claire City-County Health Department, and Eau Claire Area School District guidelines. Last year, in Sun Prairie, we decided to require masks just a couple days before the Summit, due to the unknowable components of the new delta variant, and we appreciated that everyone in attendance was very willing to follow that requirement. Currently, masks are not required at ECASD or recommended by the health department for the general population, but we’re keeping an eye on it, and we appreciate your flexibility.

We will have a virtual participation option, and although it will not allow for the same breadth of options or networking opportunities as in-person attendance, we encourage you to participate in the way that makes the most sense for you.
