IT'S ABOUT TIME to Fund Wisconsin Public Schools

Students, parents, advocates, educators, school districts, and community members who support stronger schools in Wisconsin have come together in the Fund Wisconsin Public Schools Coalition to support a landmark lawsuit against the Wisconsin Legislature for failing to adequately fund public schools.

Wisconsin Public Education Network is taking our Accountability in Action campaign to the next level by joining other organizations, school districts, and individuals from around the state to—finallyhold the state legislature accountable for meeting its constitutional obligation to adequately fund our public schools. For decades, we have used every opportunity democracy has afforded us to stand up for our public schools while lawmakers continue to ignore the needs of our children. It’s time to take the matter to the courts.

You can learn more about the case here—we are counting on you to use Public Schools Week to amplify the message and the urgency of this litigation. Click here to learn more about how you can help amplify the message.

"Meeting the Constitutional Obligation to Public School Students" (WORT 88.9FM Community Radio)

The state of Wisconsin has a constitutional obligation to provide equal opportunity for a sound basic education and adequate and reasonably uniform funding of our public schools. But for decades, the state hasn’t provided sufficient funds to school districts or distributed those funds fairly. That’s why a group of five school districts have filed a lawsuit against the Wisconsin legislature–the topic of our show today.

Guest host Bert Zipperer is in conversation with Jeff Mandell, Julie Underwood, and Heather DuBois Bourenane to break down the reasons for the lawsuit and how the state can better serve its 421 school districts.
